About the Role
The Senior Disability Underwriter serves as an independent decision-maker, exercising professional judgment to determine the insurability and premium classification of individual disability cases up to $15,000/monthly indemnity. This role is designed for a self-starter who thrives in a cross-functional team environment, utilizing logic and resources to solve complex problems with minimal leadership assistance.
In this position, you will evaluate complex medical, financial, and non-medical information to forecast needs and determine risk classification according to company guidelines. You will act as a confident communicator, negotiating with the field force and home office personnel to acquire necessary information and convey decisions in a professional manner. The role requires close collaboration with adjacent departments, including Individual Disability Service & Administration, to facilitate the entire underwriting and administrative process. You will also consult with the Medical Director and senior staff to resolve complex histories and interpret underwriting policies to ensure compliance.
