Every day, Guardian helps 29 million customers realize their dreams through a range of insurance and financial products and services. As one of the largest mutual insurance companies, we put our customers first. Our Purpose, to inspire well-being, guides our dedication to the colleagues, consumers, and communities we serve. We know that people count, and we go above and beyond to prepare them for the life they want to live, focusing on their overall well-being—mind, body, and wallet.
The Senior Disability Underwriter is a pivotal independent decision-maker within our cross-functional team environment. In this role, you will exercise professional judgment to determine the insurability and premium classification of individual disability cases, managing decisions up to $15,000 in monthly indemnity. You will serve as a self-starter who collaborates with adjacent departments, including Individual Disability Service & Administration, to facilitate the entire underwriting and administrative process.
You will be responsible for evaluating complex medical, financial, and non-medical information to forecast risks and determine classifications according to company guidelines. Your day will involve negotiating with the field force and home office personnel to acquire necessary information, resolving complex medical histories in consultation with Medical Directors, and communicating underwriting actions to proposed policyholders and peers. As a confident communicator, you will challenge the status quo, offer new solutions, and act as a positive role model focused on consumer satisfaction and high-performance culture.
At Guardian, you will have the support and flexibility to achieve your professional and personal goals. Through skill-building, leadership development, and philanthropic opportunities, we provide a path to build communities and grow your career. We are committed to offering contemporary, supportive, flexible, and inclusive benefits and resources to our colleagues as part of our Purpose to inspire well-being.
