This position serves as a key decision-maker in the property claims department, responsible for adjusting and settling claims across all property lines of business. With settlement authority up to $40,000, the role ensures that losses are handled efficiently, fairly, and in strict compliance with company guidelines and the Unfair Claims Practices Act.
The role exists to maintain the integrity of the claims process while providing a seamless experience for claimants, insureds, and legal representatives. You will act as the primary point of contact for complex claims, managing the full lifecycle from initial investigation and coverage verification to final settlement or litigation management. This includes negotiating with claimants, attorneys, and third parties, as well as coordinating independent adjusters and appraisers when specialized expertise is required.
Your work involves a dynamic mix of analytical evaluation and interpersonal negotiation. You will investigate and evaluate claims to determine proper settlement values, establishing and maintaining adequate reserves to protect the company's financial interests. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to pursuing subrogation, salvage, and third-party liability contributions to recover costs.
You will serve as a mentor and resource for Claims Representatives, assisting supervisors in instructing the team on best practices. The role requires active participation in the broader insurance community through claims seminars, associations, and continuing education to stay current with industry laws and coverages. You will also be responsible for identifying and reporting potential fraud or questionable submissions to management.
This position requires the ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, operating a computer for the majority of the day. The role involves moderate physical activity, including moving throughout the office to access materials and handling items weighing up to ten pounds. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require travel to organization offices in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota, as well as visits to vendor work sites to assess damages firsthand.
