The Office of Fiscal and Monitoring Services (OFMS) Fiscal Services Division is the backbone of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) financial operations. We are responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring all agency budget activities, from the biennial budget process to daily federal cash draws and grant status reporting. Our mission is to ensure fiscal integrity while supporting the programs that serve Ohioans through cash and food assistance, employment services, unemployment insurance, and protective services.
As a Senior Budget Analyst in the Budget Bureau, you will be more than just a number cruncher; you will be a strategic partner to program areas. This role exists to bridge the gap between complex fiscal data and actionable agency decisions. You will gain in-depth knowledge of how ODJFS programs operate, using that insight to make sound, timely budget decisions that prevent service interruptions.
Your day-to-day involves managing complex fiscal work, building trusted relationships with diverse program teams, and tackling projects that strengthen overall agency operations. You will navigate a dynamic environment where priorities shift rapidly, requiring you to balance firm deadlines during busy cycles (month-end, fiscal year-end) with the need for precision in compliance and reporting. Success in this role means translating complex financial concepts into clear narratives for non-financial audiences and ensuring that every dollar allocated aligns with federal and state rules.
The State of Ohio is committed to a fair selection process. Please note that current employees of ODJFS in the OCSEA union have selection rights before all other applicants. Applications from external candidates will only be considered if no qualified internal OCSEA applicant is selected.
When applying, it is critical to clearly describe how you meet the minimum qualifications in the online application sections for Work Experience and Education. Information provided in attached resumes or cover letters will not be credited unless it is explicitly entered into the appropriate application fields.
Public service is an honorable way to serve the community in a hands-on, dedicated way. At ODJFS, we strive to be a leader in customer satisfaction and attract a talented, diverse, and dedicated workforce. We believe in getting better at what we do every day.
The State of Ohio is a drug-free workplace and a Disability Inclusion State. We are committed to providing access, inclusion, and reasonable accommodations in all our services and employment opportunities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). If you require an accommodation based on a disability for any step of the selection process, please contact ada_public@jfs.ohio.gov.
The final candidate selected for this position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Some positions may require drug testing and/or fingerprinting. Criminal convictions do not necessarily disqualify candidates from consideration.
