We are a global mining organization with a strong focus on Health and Safety, dedicated to finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs now and in the future. Our values—care, courage, and curiosity—guide how we work and treat each other. Rio Tinto operates in 35 countries, producing iron ore, copper, aluminium, and critical minerals for the global energy transition. We strive for innovation and continuous improvement to produce materials with low emissions while adhering to the right environmental, social, and governance standards.
As a Senior Advisor in the global Health, Safety, Environment & Communities (HSEC) team, you will play a key role in leading the support and governance of the Copper Health, Safety, Environment, and Communities Management System. This position is designed to introduce and implement continuous improvement initiatives across the Copper product group, supporting both the global product group and asset teams at Kennecott, Resolution, Oyu Tolgoi, Nuton, and Copper Growth Assets.
You will be a leading and influencing member of the team, reporting directly to the Business Partner Health and Safety. Your day-to-day involves shaping the HSEC system strategy, translating system and data requirements into practical guidance, and coordinating risk reporting to elevate material issues for leadership visibility. You will drive the transformation agenda by partnering with asset teams and subject matter experts to replicate good practices across the portfolio, ensuring consistency, auditability, and comparability across all assets and projects.
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the courage to speak out, take acceptable risks, and offer solutions rather than problems. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in HSEC systems within a large, complex organization and possess strong interpersonal skills to build productive relationships across dispersed, multi-disciplinary teams.
This role is predominantly based at our Daybreak office in Salt Lake City, Utah. Given the global footprint of the Copper product group, a hybrid or flexible working arrangement will be provided. You will be expected to work effectively across multiple time zones, including the Americas, Australia, and Mongolia, with some work outside of standard business hours required.
Rio Tinto is committed to equal employment opportunity and an inclusive environment where people feel safe, respected, and valued. We believe that a variety of perspectives are essential to our success and treat all our people fairly with dignity. All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, sex, age, religion, national origin, disability, or any other characteristic protected by law. We participate in E-Verify to confirm work authorization.
