About the Team

The Mellon College of Science (MCS) is home to four departments and many programs and research centers that cross disciplines. We approach scientific problems from fresh angles using creative interdisciplinary approaches while drawing on our departmental strengths in the core sciences. MCS faculty members are nationally and internationally recognized for their research in a variety of fields, including polymer science, cosmology, mathematical finance, and neuroscience.

The Mathematical Sciences department is a large unit with a variety of degree programs that serve not only our own students but also all undergraduate students on campus taking mathematics courses. The Senior Academic Program Manager will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Studies, the Department Head, and other key faculty to serve this diverse student body.

About the Role

This role is vital to the operational heartbeat of the Mathematical Sciences department. You will be the bridge between academic policy, student success, and faculty needs. Your day will involve navigating complex enrollment systems, coordinating high-stakes academic events like commencement, and ensuring seamless communication between the department, the Registrar's Office, and the wider university community. You will support the mission of the university by fostering an environment where students can thrive academically and professionally.

Key Responsibilities

  • check_circleAdminister courses, rosters, and registration processes in S3 including waitlist management and exception handling
  • check_circleMaintain catalog and audit systems while coordinating Undergraduate Curriculum Committee meetings
  • check_circleCoordinate faculty advisor assignments and monitor student academic progress
  • check_circleProvide operational support for instruction including TA coordination and course evaluations
  • check_circlePlan and execute the undergraduate diploma ceremony including vendor coordination and logistics
  • check_circleTrack student progress and coordinate thesis defenses for graduate and honors programs
  • check_circleAssist with specialized program admissions and support alumni engagement and communications
  • check_circleServe as primary liaison to the Registrar's Office for exam scheduling and degree certification
