About the Role
This position serves as a key support to the Airport Security Manager at Garden City Regional Airport, playing a vital role in planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of airport security. The role is designed to ensure the safety and regulatory compliance of the facility while maintaining a high standard of public service.
You will work independently, exercising considerable judgment to handle difficult situations and security challenges. The position requires a unique blend of security expertise and operational versatility, ranging from managing complex access control systems to performing physical maintenance tasks like snow removal and grounds care. As a highly visible city employee, you will interact regularly with the public, tenants, airlines, and federal agencies, placing a high value on how your actions shape the community's perception of the workforce.
The Work Environment
This role is dynamic and requires adaptability to all weather conditions. While much of the work takes place indoors in a controlled environment, you will also perform duties outdoors subject to moderate to extreme temperatures, snow, rain, hail, sleet, high winds, and dust. The physical nature of the job includes repetitive motions, lifting, carrying, and the ability to scale stairs, reflecting the hands-on reality of keeping a regional airport secure and operational year-round.
