The Rural Health Behavioral Health Workforce Coordinator serves as a strategic partner to the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) in advancing the state's behavioral health workforce strategy. This 5-year contractor position is critical for strengthening rural access to care by building sustainable pipelines for frontline behavioral health professionals.
Based in Indianapolis, the role focuses on the full lifecycle of workforce development—from identifying gaps and barriers to coordinating recruitment, training, and placement across rural communities. You will act as the primary liaison between FSSA and a diverse network of stakeholders, including hospitals, community mental health centers, training institutions, and statewide technical assistance providers. The position exists to ensure that rural communities have the resources, guidance, and data-driven support needed to implement effective workforce models, such as the Community Paramedicine and Supportive Services (CPSP) models, while maintaining strict compliance with federal and state grant requirements.
Your work will blend high-level strategic planning with hands-on program administration. A typical cycle involves analyzing statewide data to identify workforce shortages, then collaborating with partners to design targeted recruitment and training pathways. You will spend significant time facilitating communication between FSSA and rural providers, ensuring that state guidance is interpreted correctly and that local needs are reflected in program design.
A major component of the role involves managing the administrative integrity of RHTP workforce-related grants. This includes monitoring budgets, tracking performance milestones, and preparing audit-ready documentation for state and federal reporting cycles. You will also coordinate with Technical Assistance Providers to align statewide efforts, sharing best practices and challenges to foster a cohesive approach to rural health transformation.
Candidates must reside locally in Indianapolis or the surrounding area. This is a full-time contractor role aligned with the duration of the RHTP grant period. Selected candidates will report directly to FSSA state staff, participate in regular check-ins, and attend required statewide meetings and training sessions. A laptop and reimbursement for job-related travel will be provided.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
