About the Role
As a FedEx Freight Driver, you will be the backbone of our logistics network, responsible for picking up and delivering trailers between service centers and turn-point locations. Operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, you will ensure freight moves efficiently across the country. This role is critical for maintaining the flow of goods, requiring you to navigate long distances day and night on all types of roads and in varying weather conditions.
Your day involves more than just driving; you will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers and converter dollies, and maintain accurate daily logs. You will verify and complete required documentation, comply with hazardous material regulations, and communicate closely with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, or equipment issues. Depending on operational needs, you may also perform chaining of vehicle tires, load and unload freight, or step into the role of a city driver or dock employee.
Working Conditions
This position demands resilience and adaptability. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes while operating in all weather conditions. The role requires the physical ability to sit for extended periods and the strength to handle trailer sets requiring an average lift force of about 100 pounds several times a day. Overnight stays may be required for certain schedules, and hours may vary to meet operational needs.
