As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will be the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your primary mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales process by building relationships and identifying new business opportunities. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional customer service.
In this position, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. Your day-to-day involves performing pre-trip safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, and securing freight using various tools and supplies. You will also handle freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks, ensuring all cargo is transported safely and efficiently.
Beyond driving, you will serve as a representative of FedEx Freight. You will communicate directly with customers to determine their specific needs, collect payments, and solicit additional business. This dual focus on logistics and sales makes the role dynamic, requiring you to follow dispatch instructions while adapting to operational needs that may include road driving or dock duties.
This role requires driving throughout the shift on all types of roads and in all weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. The position demands physical stamina, including the ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck. You must also be capable of lifting and carrying hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week.
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations are mandatory. Candidates must also have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course.
Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. Drivers in specific states operating Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) must meet additional certification standards.
