City Driver

About the Role

FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to support our logistics network by picking up and delivering freight between Service Centers and customers. This role is vital to our mission of keeping the supply chain moving efficiently. Beyond transportation, you will actively support our selling process by communicating with customers to determine needs and soliciting additional business, turning every delivery into an opportunity to strengthen our client relationships.

Day in the Life

Your shift will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. The role requires hands-on freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and may involve recouping or repairing damaged freight.

Communication is key throughout your day; you will follow dispatch instructions regarding delays or equipment issues and maintain required documentation. You may also be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires or step into the role of a road driver or dock employee depending on operational needs. The job involves working independently or as part of a team, often in varying weather conditions, with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes.

Hiring Process

Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. Applicants must also have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Note that the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
