FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to pick up and deliver trailers between Service Centers and turn-point locations using tractor-trailer combinations. This role is vital to maintaining the flow of freight across our network, ensuring timely and safe transportation of goods.
As a Driver, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable. Your day involves performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers and converter dollies, and verifying all required documentation and reports. You will maintain accurate daily logs and strictly comply with hazardous material regulations and company policies.
Communication is key in this position; you will follow dispatch instructions and report on delays, arrivals, or equipment problems as needed. Depending on operational needs, you may also perform duties of a city driver or dock employee, including chaining vehicle tires and loading or unloading freight. The role requires the ability to work independently or as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and motivation while adhering to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements.
This position involves driving long distances day and night on various road types and in all weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes, as well as hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. Hours may vary due to operational needs, and overnight stays may be required for certain schedules. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to sit for extended periods and perform tasks requiring an average lift force of about 100 pounds several times a day.
Qualified candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements (automatic transmission restriction allowed). Applicants must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. A satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with DOT Section 391 regulations are mandatory.
*Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance to operate a commercial motor vehicle.
