FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated Driver to support our logistics network by picking up and delivering freight between Service Centers and customers. This position is vital to our mission of ensuring timely, safe, and efficient transportation of goods. Beyond driving, you will play an active role in the selling process by communicating with customers to determine their needs and soliciting additional business opportunities.
Your day will involve operating tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. You will perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. The role requires hands-on freight handling using motorized and manual equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, and may involve recouping or repairing damaged freight.
Communication is key; you will follow dispatch instructions, report delays or equipment issues, and interact directly with customers. Additionally, you may be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires, work as a road driver or dock employee depending on operational needs, and handle cash or checks for freight charges.
This role involves driving throughout the shift on all types of roads and in various weather conditions. You will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, diesel fumes, and hazardous materials shipped under DOT regulations. The position requires the ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat, and climb in and out of the truck. Hours may vary based on operational needs.
To be considered, candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A one-year experience requirement within the most recent three years or successful completion of the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course is mandatory. Candidates must also meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
