About the Role
As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your mission extends beyond simply moving freight; you are a key partner in our selling process, responsible for delivering excellence while actively identifying opportunities to grow our business. This role combines the precision of operating heavy commercial vehicles with the interpersonal skills required to provide top-tier customer service.
In this position, you will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, navigating various road types and weather conditions. Your day involves a dynamic mix of driving, freight handling, and customer interaction. You will perform daily safety inspections, hook and unhook trailers, and secure freight using specialized equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. Beyond logistics, you will verify documentation, comply with hazardous material regulations, and handle financial transactions such as collecting cash or checks for freight charges.
A unique aspect of this role is its dual focus on operations and sales. You will communicate directly with customers to determine their specific needs, solicit additional business, and provide leads for potential new opportunities. Whether you are chaining tires, performing duties as a road driver or dock employee, or simply ensuring a safe delivery, you will work independently and as part of a team to keep our supply chain moving efficiently.
