As a FedEx Freight Driver, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales process by identifying opportunities to grow our business relationships. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional service on the road.
You will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. Your day involves performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, and securing freight using appropriate tools like pallets, straps, and rope. Beyond driving, you will handle freight using motorized and manual equipment, verify documentation, and comply with all hazardous material regulations. You will also interact directly with customers to determine delivery needs, collect payments, and solicit additional business, acting as a representative of our brand.
This position requires flexibility; you may be called upon to perform duties of a road driver or a dock employee depending on operational needs. You will drive on all types of roads in all weather conditions, facing exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and diesel fumes. The role demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift hand freight up to 100 pounds, as well as the mental focus to follow complex dispatch instructions and maintain accurate records.
To join our team, candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. While an automatic transmission restriction is allowed, you must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. All applicants must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier regulations and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
*Note: The Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance. Drivers operating Long Combination Vehicles (LCVs) in specific states (AZ, CO, FL, ID, IN, KS, MT, ND, NV, OH, OK, OR, SD, UT) must meet additional certification standards.
