As a Driver for FedEx Freight, you will serve as the vital link between our Service Centers and our customers. Your primary mission is to safely pick up and deliver freight while actively supporting our sales process by identifying opportunities to grow our business relationships. This role is designed for individuals who take pride in operating heavy equipment and delivering exceptional customer service in a fast-paced logistics environment.
You will operate tractor-trailer combinations, including doubles and triples where applicable, as well as straight trucks. Your day involves performing daily pre-trip and safety inspections, hooking and unhooking trailers, and handling freight using motorized and manual equipment like forklifts and pallet jacks. Beyond driving, you are responsible for securing freight, verifying documentation, and complying with all hazardous material regulations. You will also interact directly with customers to determine delivery needs, collect payments, and solicit additional business, turning every delivery into a potential sales lead.
The role requires flexibility; you may be called upon to perform duties of a road driver or a dock employee depending on operational needs. You will work independently and as part of a team, communicating regularly with dispatch regarding delays, arrivals, and equipment issues. This position demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift hand freight up to 100 pounds, sit for extended periods, and work in various weather conditions, from all types of roads to exposure to noise, vibration, and diesel fumes.
Candidates must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple, hazardous materials, and tank endorsements. A valid Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements are mandatory. Applicants must have one year of experience within the most recent three years or have successfully completed the FedEx Freight Driver Development Course. Note that the Hazardous Materials endorsement must be obtained within 120 days of offer acceptance.
