University of New Mexico Hospital serves as the state's premier medical center, offering a comprehensive range of surgical services. Our Operating Room and Surgical Services Perioperative Program is dedicated to advancing patient care through excellence, teamwork, and innovation. As the only Level 1 trauma operating room in the state, our CCT OR operates 24/7 as a high-volume educational facility, fostering a culture where patient safety is the top priority and adaptability is essential.
We also host the only children's hospital in New Mexico, where our Pediatric Operating Room team provides compassionate, family-centered care to infants, children, and adolescents. Our Eye Surgery Center and broader Perioperative Program further expand our reach, ensuring specialized surgical expertise is available across the state.
As a Registered Nurse in our Inpatient Surgical Services, you will work within the nursing process to provide direct, high-quality care to patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatric patients. This role is designed for those who thrive in a dynamic, fluid environment where the ability to adapt to changing situations is crucial.
In the CCT OR, you will join a team of dedicated professionals working in 18 operating rooms. The environment is fast-paced, requiring staff to be flexible and collaborative. You will serve as a role model for a positive work environment, assuming relief charge duties when designated and participating in the orientation and evaluation of new personnel.
For those passionate about pediatric care, the Pediatric OR offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact during critical moments in a child's life. Here, you will work alongside experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, and fellow OR professionals who share a commitment to excellence. We offer comprehensive training and orientation for nurses transitioning into pediatric perioperative nursing, allowing you to bring your clinical expertise and nurturing spirit to a rewarding setting.
If you are new to the operating room, our Surgical Services Peri-Op Program provides a structured 6-month training path. This program combines classroom didactics with on-the-job training under preceptors, covering equipment, supplies, instruments, and departmental policies across various service specialties. Upon completion, you will have the autonomy to review open shifts and choose your schedule.
We have immediate openings across our ORs and Surgical Services. To apply, simply submit your application, and a hiring manager will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and potential placement. We are committed to helping you find the right fit within our team.
