University of New Mexico Hospital is the state's only Level 1 trauma center and home to the only children's hospital in New Mexico. Our Surgical Services Perioperative Program encompasses a dynamic environment where patient safety and teamwork are paramount. We operate 24/7 across multiple specialized units, including the 18-room CCT Operating Room, a dedicated Pediatric Operating Room, and the Eye Surgery Center. Our culture is built on flexibility, adaptability, and a shared commitment to transforming lives through advanced surgical care.
As an RN in our Inpatient Operating Rooms, you will serve as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team delivering high-quality care to patients ranging from neonates to geriatric adults. The role demands a fluid, fast-paced approach, particularly within our Level 1 trauma center where the environment changes rapidly. You will provide direct nursing care, assist with special tests and procedures, and ensure a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
In our Pediatric Operating Room, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside experienced surgeons and anesthesiologists to care for infants, children, and adolescents in a supportive, family-centered setting. For those new to the field, our 6-month Surgical Services Peri-Op Program offers comprehensive training, combining classroom didactics with on-the-job mentorship to prepare you for a successful career in perioperative nursing.
We are currently hiring immediately for all operating rooms and surgical services. To apply, simply submit your application, and a hiring manager will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and potential placement. We utilize a self-scheduling program, allowing staff to manage their workdays and vacation time effectively. Upon completing our training programs, nurses collaborate with the OR Manager to review open shifts and finalize their schedules.
We offer a competitive compensation package including shift differentials (17% for weekday nights, 26% for weekend nights, and 15% for weekend days), sign-on bonuses, and relocation assistance. Our team values professional growth, encouraging participation in educational programs, in-services, and workshops. We are committed to diversity and welcome bilingual candidates, particularly those fluent in Spanish or indigenous languages such as Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo.
