University of New Mexico Hospital serves as the state's premier medical center, offering a comprehensive range of surgical services. Our Operating Room and Surgical Services Perioperative Program is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care through a culture of teamwork, safety, and continuous learning. As the only Level 1 trauma operating room in the state, our CCT OR operates 24/7 across 18 rooms, functioning as a dynamic educational facility where flexibility and adaptability are essential. We also host the only children's hospital in New Mexico, providing a family-centered environment where nurses can make a lasting impact on the lives of infants, children, and adolescents.
As a Registered Nurse in our Perioperative Program, you will provide direct nursing care to patients across the lifespan, from neonates to geriatric adults. You will serve as a clinical leader, ensuring adherence to hospital policies while collaborating with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and fellow professionals to deliver high-quality surgical outcomes. Whether in the fast-paced trauma environment or the specialized Pediatric OR, your role involves managing complex care plans, administering medications, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment for patients and families.
For those new to the field, our 6-month Perioperative Program offers a structured path to success. This comprehensive training includes classroom didactics and on-the-job rotations with preceptors across various specialties, covering equipment, instruments, and departmental processes. Upon completion, you will partner with the OR Manager to select your schedule, transitioning into a fully independent perioperative nurse.
We have immediate openings across our ORs and Surgical Services. To apply, simply submit your application, and a hiring manager will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and potential placement. We offer a supportive onboarding experience, including comprehensive training for new graduates and orientation for those transitioning into pediatric perioperative nursing.
