University of New Mexico Hospital serves as the state's premier medical center, offering a comprehensive range of surgical services. Our Operating Room and Surgical Services Perioperative Program is dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care through a culture of teamwork and safety. We are the only Level 1 trauma operating room in the state, providing a dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential to meeting the needs of our diverse patient population.
Our team includes specialized units such as the CCT Operating Room, which features 18 rooms staffed 24/7, and the Pediatric Operating Room at New Mexico's only children's hospital. The Pediatric OR offers a supportive, family-centered environment where nurses help transform young lives through advanced surgical care. Additionally, our Eye Surgery Center and the Surgical Services Peri-Op Program provide specialized care and training opportunities.
The Perioperative Program is a unique 6-month training initiative designed for nurses new to the operating room. This program combines classroom didactics with on-the-job training under the guidance of experienced preceptors, covering equipment, supplies, and specific service processes. Upon completion, nurses work directly with the OR Manager to select their schedules, ensuring a smooth transition into the team.
As a Registered Nurse in our Inpatient Operating Rooms, you will work within the nursing process to provide direct nursing care to patients across all age groups, from neonates to geriatric patients. You will serve as a clinical leader, assuming relief charge duties when designated and acting as a role model to promote a positive work environment and high-quality patient care.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve collaborating with the healthcare team to implement individualized care plans, assisting with special tests and procedures, and ensuring patient safety through proactive measures. You will administer medications, maintain accurate medical records, and foster a therapeutic environment for patients and their families. The role requires the ability to adapt to a busy, fluid environment and respond effectively to emergency situations.
We have immediate openings across our ORs and Surgical Services. To apply, simply submit your application, and a hiring manager will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your interests and potential placement. We offer a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance to support your transition to our team.
