University of New Mexico Hospital serves as the state's premier academic medical center, offering comprehensive care across a wide spectrum of specialties. Our Surgical Services Perioperative Program is dedicated to advancing patient outcomes through excellence in perioperative nursing, education, and innovation.
We are currently expanding our team across our Operating Rooms (OR) and Surgical Services. Our facilities include the CCT OR, the only Level 1 trauma operating room in the state, and the Pediatric Operating Room, located within New Mexico's only children's hospital. These units represent a dynamic, high-acuity environment where teamwork and patient safety are paramount.
The CCT OR operates 24/7 with 18 rooms, functioning as both a clinical hub and an educational facility. The atmosphere is fluid and fast-paced, requiring staff to be adaptable and responsive to changing surgical needs. Our culture is built on collaboration, with a shared commitment to placing patient safety above all else.
Our Pediatric OR team provides a unique opportunity for nurses passionate about caring for infants, children, and adolescents. Working alongside experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, and fellow professionals, you will deliver compassionate, high-quality care in a supportive, family-centered environment. This role allows you to make a lasting impact during critical moments in a child's life.
For those new to the field, our Surgical Services Peri-Op Program offers a comprehensive 6-month training pathway. Designed for nurses without prior operating room experience, the program combines classroom didactics with on-the-job training under the guidance of preceptors. Trainees rotate through various service specialties to master specific equipment, supplies, and processes, ensuring a smooth transition into independent practice.
