About the Team
University of New Mexico Hospital serves as the state's premier medical center, offering a comprehensive range of surgical services. Our Operating Room and Surgical Services Perioperative Program is dedicated to advancing patient care through a culture of teamwork, safety, and excellence. We are the only Level 1 trauma operating room in the state, providing a dynamic environment where flexibility and adaptability are essential to meeting the needs of a diverse patient population.
Our Pediatric Operating Room is located within the only children's hospital in New Mexico. Here, we transform young lives through advanced surgical care in a supportive, family-centered environment. Our team of experienced surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative professionals shares a commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality care to infants, children, and adolescents from across the state.
We also operate a specialized Eye Surgery Center and a robust Perioperative Program designed to nurture new talent. This 6-month training program offers comprehensive classroom didactics and on-the-job training with preceptors, preparing nurses for success across various surgical specialties.

- check_circleAssist with or institute emergency measures for sudden adverse patient developments
- check_circleParticipate in orientation and assume precepting responsibilities for new personnel
- check_circleMaintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families
- check_circleEnhance professional growth through participation in educational programs and workshops
- check_circleReport potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses
- check_circleCollaborate with the healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans
- check_circleAssist with special tests and procedures while ensuring proper consent is obtained
- check_circleAdminister medications including IVs via the Seven Rights and document clinical findings
- check_circleAnswer telephones and triage calls according to departmental policy
Requirements
