VCU Health System is seeking an Advanced Respiratory Therapist to provide safe, effective, and comprehensive respiratory care across the entire lifespan. This role serves as a critical clinical resource for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations, ensuring care aligns with discipline training, Clinical Practice Guidelines, and hospital standards.
As a key member of the healthcare team, you will function as a primary educator for patients, caregivers, and fellow staff members. In the absence of a supervisor, you will step into a shift team leader role, guiding the unit's operations and supporting team members through complex clinical scenarios. This position is designed for those who thrive in a fast-paced environment, requiring adaptability to fluctuating workloads, high-stress situations, and the ability to manage multiple priorities with precision.
Your clinical practice will involve initiating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical ventilation, including CPAP and BiPAP, while ensuring all equipment operates safely. You will perform comprehensive respiratory care assessments and interventions, ranging from airway clearance and inhaled medications to tracheostomy and laryngectomy tube changes. Depending on your assignment, you may assist with labor and delivery support or perform external critical care transports for critically ill neonatal and pediatric patients, managing all necessary equipment and medical gas administration during transit.
Beyond direct patient care, you will collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to evaluate the appropriateness of care plans and assess the effects of all therapies and diagnostic procedures, such as blood gas analysis and bronchoscopy assistance. You will also maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, interventions, and charges, while participating in quality improvement activities and continuing education to uphold the highest standards of care.
To apply, please submit your credentials demonstrating eligibility for the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) registry and Virginia licensure. New hires on or after January 1, 2015, must hold a current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential. Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program are preferred, though a combination of education and experience may be considered.
Special Incentive: A signing bonus of up to $20,000 is available for offers accepted by June 30, 2026. Terms and conditions apply.
