The Special Education (SPED) Teacher serves as the subject matter expert at EMNRBS, championing the belief that every student deserves an equal opportunity to develop, grow, and learn. Working within the Department of Humanities, this role is central to ensuring students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) receive high-quality, inclusive education that is standards-aligned and supports their academic and social-emotional development.
This position operates within an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model, partnering closely with an assigned Humanities teacher and a Guidance Counselor. The role is defined by servant leadership, extending beyond standard hours to build a robust ecosystem that supports academic achievement and high accountability. You will leverage differentiated methodologies to help students master creative and expository writing, merge historical content with modern themes, and understand the connections between the humanities and technology.
EMNRBS is committed to building an innovative, exciting, and effective school model that impacts education reform nationwide. We strive to build strong relationships with students, families, and the Bronx community. A core part of this mission is incorporating equity into curriculum, lesson design, and instruction, with a demonstrated commitment to working with BIPOC teens from the South Bronx.
Candidates selected for an interview will undergo a process designed to assess both instructional capability and cultural fit. This includes a review of your portfolio and experience, followed by interviews with the Director of Exceptional Learning and Wellness and the hiring team. We utilize the Marshall Teacher Evaluation Rubric to guide our understanding of quality instruction, focusing on domains such as Planning and Preparation, Classroom Management, and Family and Community Outreach.
EMNRBS is an equal opportunity employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, disability status, or veteran status.
