The Teacher: Literacy serves as the subject matter expert at EMNRBS, dedicated to delivering consistent, engaging, and high-quality facilitation of learning. This role is designed to support the academic and social-emotional development of all learners through standards-aligned instruction. Teaching at EMNRBS is viewed as an act of servant leadership that extends beyond a standard 8-hour workday, requiring a deep contextual understanding of pedagogy and a commitment to the school's mission.
Reporting to the Director of Literacy Enrichment, this full-time instructional staff member works in close collaboration with an assigned Counselor and, in an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model, with a Special Education teacher. This ecosystem ensures robust support for academic achievement and high accountability standards for every student.
EMNRBS is committed to building an innovative, exciting, and effective school model that impacts education reform nationwide. The role emphasizes strong relationships with students, families, and the Bronx community. Teachers are expected to incorporate equity into curriculum and lesson design, merge historical content with modern themes, and demonstrate the connections between the humanities and technology. A core part of the position involves actively modeling high academic and personal standards while working with BIPOC teens from the South Bronx.
Quality instruction at EMNRBS is grounded in efficient and effective feedback. All instructional staff are evaluated using the Marshall Teacher Evaluation Rubric, which assesses domains including planning, classroom management, delivery of instruction, assessment, family outreach, and professional responsibilities. The school fosters a culture of continuous improvement through regular 1x1 meetings with direct managers, weekly grade meetings, and professional development opportunities both on campus and with outside organizations. Teachers are encouraged to be receptive to vertical and lateral feedback from colleagues and managers to refine their practice.
EMNRBS is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity and inclusion. We actively seek educators who demonstrate a commitment to working with BIPOC teens and fostering an inclusive environment where all students can thrive.
