The Teacher: History serves as the subject matter expert at EMNRBS, dedicated to delivering consistent, engaging, and high-quality learning experiences. This role is designed to support the academic and social-emotional development of all learners through standards-aligned facilitation. Teaching at EMNRBS is viewed as an act of servant leadership that extends beyond standard working hours, requiring a deep contextual understanding of pedagogy and a commitment to the school's mission.
Reporting to the Academic Director of Humanities, this full-time instructional staff member works within an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) model alongside a Special Education teacher. The position also involves close collaboration with an assigned Guidance Counselor and a Literacy Enrichment Specialist to ensure a robust ecosystem that supports academic achievement and high accountability standards.
You will teach 4-6 sections of History courses, leveraging class time and prep opportunities like Mock Exams and Saturday sessions to ensure students are on track to pass the Regents Exam. A significant portion of your time is dedicated to leading an advisory group of 20-25 students, building proactive and ongoing relationships with them and their families.
Your work involves gathering and using data to improve the U.S. History and Global History programs, helping students analyze events from social, economic, and political perspectives while connecting American History to contemporary society. You will collaborate with faculty to build an innovative school model that impacts education reform nationwide, incorporating equity into curriculum and lesson design.
EMNRBS is committed to working with BIPOC teens from the South Bronx and fostering a community where students are held accountable to high academic and personal standards. We believe in efficient and effective instructional feedback as a basis for quality instruction. The school utilizes the Marshall Teacher Evaluation Rubric to assess performance across domains including planning, classroom management, instruction delivery, and family outreach.
We value a culture of continuous improvement, where teachers are receptive to vertical and lateral feedback from colleagues and managers. Professional development is encouraged both on campus and through collaboration with outside organizations.
Candidates will be evaluated based on their ability to model high standards and their demonstrated commitment to the community. The selection process focuses on finding educators who possess a passion for history and a desire to continue learning while effectively differentiating instruction for students of many abilities.
