About the Agency

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) partners with local communities to support individuals with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working within their communities. APD provides critical services to help customers reach their full potential, serving people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. There is no charge or co-payment for services provided through the Agency.

About the Role

Join APD's Tacachale team in Gainesville, FL, and become part of a group that makes a difference—not just a living. As a Residential Unit Specialist, you will directly impact the lives of developmentally disabled adults by providing essential support and services. Your primary mission is to implement individualized active treatment plans while ensuring the safety and well-being of residents.

In this role, you will foster a home-like environment where residents can thrive. You will supervise and train residents across various settings, facilitate recreation and leisure activities, and assist with activities of daily living. Your day involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to execute behavior support plans, therapy programs, and skill acquisition activities. You will also serve as a vital link in communication, documenting resident progress and participating in meetings to refine goals and objectives.

Hiring Process & Application Instructions

This is an open competitive opportunity for multiple vacancies. To be considered, applicants must complete all fields in the Candidate Profile, including work history with specific months and years. Responses to qualifying questions must be verifiable within the profile; "see resume" is not an acceptable response. While resumes can be attached for additional context, they do not replace the required profile completion.

All applicants must undergo Level 2 employment screening, including fingerprinting for state and federal criminal records checks, as a condition of employment. APD hires only U.S. citizens or those lawfully authorized to work in the U.S. and participates in the E-verify program. Veterans' Preference is available for eligible candidates.

For assistance with the application process, contact the People First Service Center at 1-877-562-7287. Candidates requiring reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act must notify the hiring authority or the service center in advance.

Equal Opportunity & Culture

The State of Florida is a drug-free workplace and supports a diverse workforce. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background. Veterans' Preference is granted to eligible candidates in accordance with Florida Statutes. The State of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
