This position supports the Residential Addiction programs at the Generose Building within the Inpatient Addictions Program. Addictions treatment programs at Mayo Clinic take an individualized holistic approach within a respectful, professional environment. Patients are treated by multidisciplinary care teams which ensures each patient receives comprehensive treatment that addresses alcohol and/or other substance abuse, emotional health, and spiritual wellbeing.
The Psychiatric Technician is an integral member of the psychiatric residential and hospital-based psych emergency services team, participating in both direct and indirect patient care for adults and children. At the direction of a registered nurse, the Psychiatric Technician promotes involvement in the treatment program. This role assists residents in various social, clinical, nutritional, and observational activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a safe patient milieu.
The Psychiatric Technician plays a crucial role in ongoing safety observation, assessment of the milieu, and identification of escalation of concerning behaviors. Additionally, this role leads social activities, games, and crafts that promote patient engagement in the milieu and help patients practice therapy concepts they are learning within their individualized care plans. The position may float to additional residential programs within the Psychiatry department and supports coverage for the Outpatient Addictions Programs for adults age 18 or older.
