This role is situated within the Behavioral Services department at the MATS Center, a key component of UNM Health Systems. The team operates within a dedicated Ambulatory/Outpatient Operations area, focusing on the critical intersection of patient access, financial navigation, and administrative precision for behavioral health and general medical services.
As a vital first point of contact, you will manage the pre-registration and registration lifecycle for patients, ensuring a seamless transition from arrival to care. This position serves as the primary liaison between patients, law enforcement agencies (PICLEA), clinical staff, and insurance providers. Your work ensures that insurance coverage, benefits, and necessary referrals are verified before visits occur, while also guiding patients through complex financial landscapes.
You will play a pivotal role in financial accessibility by screening patients for coverage and assisting them in navigating options such as UNM Health Systems financial assistance, NM Medicaid, and other state or federal programs. The role involves conducting intake applications, verifying eligibility for various payors (including Medicare, Medicaid, and self-pay), and managing the documentation required for prior authorizations. Beyond administrative duties, you will provide customer service excellence, assisting patients in locating departments, scheduling appointments, and handling sensitive interactions with dignity and professionalism.
