This position is part of the Behavioral Services department at the MATS Center, a key component of UNM Health Systems. The team is dedicated to providing accessible, compassionate care to individuals seeking behavioral health support, ensuring that administrative and registration processes facilitate a smooth and dignified patient journey.
As a Patient Registration and Financial Services Associate, you serve as the vital first point of contact for patients, particularly those in the custody of law enforcement agencies (PICLEA) and those arriving for outpatient or ambulatory care. This role is designed to bridge the gap between clinical needs and financial logistics, ensuring that every patient understands their coverage options and financial responsibilities before receiving care.
In this part-time, day-shift capacity, you will navigate a dynamic environment where efficiency and empathy are equally critical. Your day involves verifying insurance eligibility, securing necessary prior authorizations, and guiding patients through complex financial assistance programs, including UNM Health Systems charity care, NM Medicaid, and other state or federal resources. You will act as a liaison between clinical staff, providers, and insurance payors, ensuring that documentation is accurate and that billing processes remain compliant with hospital policies.
Beyond registration, you will manage front desk operations, handle sensitive patient valuables, and coordinate admissions for direct admits and surgical patients. The role requires a high degree of attention to detail as you manage data entry, reconcile cash, and maintain accurate patient records across various hospital systems. While no direct patient care is performed, your work directly impacts the patient experience by removing administrative barriers to care.
Candidates with a High School diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of directly related experience are encouraged to apply. Bilingual proficiency in Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued and may be considered a preferred qualification.
UNM Health Systems is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to building a diverse workforce and consider qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
