This position is part of the Behavioral Services department at the MATS Center, a vital component of the UNM Health Systems. The team is dedicated to providing accessible, compassionate care to individuals seeking behavioral health support, ensuring that administrative and registration processes facilitate a smooth and dignified patient journey.
As a key first point of contact, this role serves as the operational backbone for the Ambulatory and Outpatient Operations area. You will manage the critical pre-registration and registration functions that ensure patients are properly enrolled, insured, and ready for care. The position requires a high degree of accuracy and empathy, particularly when assisting vulnerable populations, including Persons in Custody of Law Enforcement Agencies (PICLEA), and navigating complex financial assistance programs such as UNM Care, NM Medicaid, and state/federal aid.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of front-desk duties, data management, and patient advocacy. You will verify insurance eligibility, secure necessary prior authorizations, and guide patients through financial options to ensure they receive the care they need without unnecessary barriers. Beyond administrative tasks, you will act as a liaison between clinical staff, providers, and insurance payors, coordinating benefits and resolving coverage issues. The role also includes training registration personnel and clinical teams to maintain efficient process flows and upholding the highest standards of customer service and data integrity within the hospital system.
