This role is situated within the Behavioral and Mental Health department, specifically under the BHO - Admitting/Registration - UPC unit. The team serves as the critical first point of contact for patients entering the UNM Health Systems, ensuring a seamless transition from arrival to care. The department is dedicated to maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while providing compassionate support to individuals seeking mental health and behavioral services.
As a key member of the Admitting and Registration team, you will manage the pre-registration and registration functions for the Ambulatory and Outpatient Operations area. This position is vital for verifying insurance coverage, benefits, and required referrals prior to a patient's visit. You will act as the primary liaison between patients, clinical staff, and insurance providers, navigating complex financial landscapes to ensure access to care.
Your day will involve professional phone handling via the ACD system, assisting patients in navigating financial options such as UNM Health Systems financial assistance, NM Medicaid, and other state and federal programs. A unique aspect of this role is serving as the first contact for Persons in Custody of Law Enforcement Agency (PICLEA) upon their arrival for care. You will also coordinate patient appointments, manage data entry accuracy within hospital systems like Cerner and Siemens, and handle cash reconciliation. While this is an administrative and operational role with no direct patient care assignments, you will frequently interact with patients, families, physicians, and law enforcement to facilitate smooth admissions and ensure accurate billing documentation.
Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of directly related experience. Bilingual proficiency in Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is considered a valuable asset. The position is a full-time, day-shift role with a potential for shift rotation and travel to various work sites. Interested applicants should apply through the official university portal, where the compensation will be determined based on experience, education, and organizational needs.
