This role is situated within the Behavioral and Mental Health department, specifically under the BHO - Admitting/Registration - UPC division. The team serves as the critical first point of contact for patients entering the UNM Health Systems, ensuring a seamless transition from arrival to care. The department operates with a mission to provide professional, efficient, and compassionate support to individuals seeking behavioral and mental health services, including those in custody of law enforcement agencies.
As a key member of the Admitting and Registration team, you will manage the pre-registration and registration functions for the Ambulatory and Outpatient Operations area. You will handle professional phone calls via the ACD system, assist walk-in patients, and serve as the first contact for Persons in Custody of Law Enforcement Agency (PICLEA) arriving for care. A significant portion of the role focuses on navigating complex financial landscapes; you will screen patients for coverage, assist them in understanding their financial options, and guide them through applications for UNM Health Systems financial assistance, NM Medicaid, and other state and federal programs.
While this role involves no direct patient care assignments, you will coordinate patient appointments, manage valuables, and ensure adherence to all hospital and departmental policies. You will also serve as a liaison to coordinate financial benefits and prior authorizations, assigning necessary medical codes and documenting final authorizations in the hospital systems (Cerner and Siemens). Additionally, you will contribute to the team's growth by training registration personnel and conducting outreach to clinical areas to maintain efficient process flows.
