This position is part of the Behavioral Services department at the MATS Center, a vital component of UNM Health Systems. The team is dedicated to providing accessible, compassionate care to individuals seeking behavioral health support, ensuring that financial and administrative barriers do not hinder access to treatment.
As a key first point of contact, you will manage the pre-registration and registration functions for the Ambulatory and Outpatient Operations area. This role is critical in ensuring patients can navigate the healthcare system smoothly before they even step into a clinical setting. You will verify insurance coverage, secure necessary referrals and prior authorizations, and assist patients in understanding their financial options, including UNM Health Systems financial assistance, NM Medicaid, and other state or federal programs.
Your day will involve a blend of high-volume phone support via the ACD system and in-person interactions at the front desk. You will serve as the primary liaison for Persons in Custody of Law Enforcement Agencies (PICLEA) arriving for care, guiding them through intake and eligibility processes. Beyond administrative tasks, you will act as a resource for patients and families, helping them locate departments, schedule appointments, and connect with community resources. The role also requires maintaining accurate data entry in Cerner and Siemens systems, handling cash reconciliation, and serving as a liaison between clinic staff, providers, and insurance payors to coordinate benefits.
While this is a non-clinical role with no patient care assignments, you will be deeply involved in the patient experience by ensuring accurate demographic and financial data is captured, rights are distributed, and patients are informed of their billing and assistance options. You will also contribute to the team's growth by participating in training initiatives and maintaining open communication with clinical areas to ensure efficient process flow.
Candidates with a High School diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of directly related experience are encouraged to apply. Bilingual proficiency in Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued and may be considered a non-essential preference.
UNM Health Systems is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to building a diverse workforce and consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
