You will join the Behavioral Services team at the MATS Center, a vital part of the UNM Health Systems dedicated to providing comprehensive care. This role operates within a department focused on supporting individuals in a specialized behavioral health environment, ensuring seamless integration between clinical needs and administrative support.
This position serves as the critical first point of contact for patients, particularly those in the custody of law enforcement agencies (PICLEA), as they arrive for care. As a part-time (0.50 FTE) day-shift team member, you will manage pre-registration and registration functions for the Ambulatory/Outpatient Operations area. Your work ensures that every patient's journey begins with accurate data, verified insurance coverage, and necessary referrals or prior authorizations in place.
You will act as a navigator for patients facing complex financial landscapes, assisting them in understanding their coverage options and guiding them through applications for state programs like NM Medicaid, UNM Health Systems financial assistance, and other federal or state benefits. Beyond administrative duties, you will serve as a liaison between clinic staff, providers, and insurance payors to coordinate financial benefits and ensure proper documentation for reimbursement.
The role requires a blend of precision and empathy. You will handle professional phone interactions via an ACD system, manage front desk operations including after-hours coverage, and coordinate patient appointments and resources. While this is an administrative role with no direct patient care assignments, you will be instrumental in maintaining the flow of information and resources that allow the clinical team to focus on treatment.
Candidates with a High School diploma or GED equivalent and at least two years of directly related experience are encouraged to apply. Bilingual proficiency in Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo is highly valued and may be considered a non-essential preference.
UNM Health Systems is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to building a diverse workforce and consider qualified applicants regardless of background, race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status.
