This role is part of the Behavioral and Mental Health department within the BHO - Admitting/Registration unit at the University of New Mexico Health Systems. The team serves as the critical first point of contact for patients entering the healthcare system, ensuring a seamless transition from arrival to care. We are dedicated to maintaining high standards of operational efficiency while providing compassionate support to individuals and families navigating complex healthcare journeys.
As a Registration and Admitting Specialist, you will manage the pre-registration and registration functions for our Ambulatory and Outpatient Operations. You will act as the primary liaison between patients, clinical staff, and insurance providers, handling everything from scheduling and demographic verification to financial assistance applications.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of front-desk operations and detailed administrative work. You will be the first contact for patients, including those in the custody of law enforcement, guiding them through the intake process and helping them navigate financial options such as UNM Health Systems assistance, NM Medicaid, and other state or federal programs. Beyond data entry and coding, you will serve as a resource for patients and families, connecting them with community resources and ensuring they understand their financial responsibilities. This role requires a professional demeanor and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and efficiency, all while adhering to strict hospital policies and procedures.
Candidates selected for an interview will be contacted directly by the hiring team to schedule a conversation regarding their qualifications and experience.
