The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides advanced-level respiratory care to patients, designed to diagnose, evaluate, treat, manage, and control deficiencies and/or abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system within the prescription of the ordering physician. This role is critical for maintaining optimal patient outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
As a member of the Respiratory Care Team, you will perform, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic testing procedures, obtain arterial gases, and troubleshoot equipment. You will initiate respiratory protocols and interventions based on assessments, administer medications safely, and communicate patient progress to physicians and nursing staff. A key part of your day involves educating patients and families on self-care techniques and health promotion. You will also participate in quality and patient safety initiatives, identifying areas for improvement and acting as a resource and mentor to staff. Depending on business needs, you may be required to float to other departments or be placed on-call.
