This Registered Nurse position is based at the Nasseff Tower 10 (NT10) in the Thoracic Surgery/Monitored Surgical (Progressive Care) unit. This 24-bed unit specializes in the care of adult thoracic surgical patients requiring lung, esophageal, and other foregut surgical procedures. All rooms feature ECG monitoring with additional capabilities such as invasive and noninvasive blood pressure monitoring.
Patients in this unit require specialized postsurgical care, including the management of drainage systems, wound care, and early mobilization. There is a special emphasis placed on respiratory assessment, intervention, and the management of the postoperative recovery process. As a member of the nursing team, you will promote mobility and independence, provide patient and family education, and manage discharge planning ranging from straightforward to complex cases. Teamwork is essential in delivering multidisciplinary care.
Within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, you will be accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care. You will function as a leader through preceptor roles, informal and formal leadership activities, and quality improvement efforts. You will also possess excellent communication skills, mentor and teach others, and may participate on committees or projects.
