You belong at Avera. We are a multidisciplinary team built with compassion, dedicated to the mission of Moving Health Forward for our patients and the community. This role exists to foster a culture where every team member feels they matter, working in an environment that prioritizes excellence through evidenced-based clinical practice.
As a Staff Development Nurse, you will serve as an educator, consultant, facilitator, and change agent within the Avera Cancer Institute. Your primary focus is to develop nursing expertise and empower staff through knowledge, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care.
In this position, you will lead the educational process by assessing needs, planning, implementing, and evaluating competency assessments, continuing education, and leadership development programs. You will collaborate closely with directors and managers to create robust education and orientation plans tailored to specific clinical areas. Beyond formal training, you will act as a resource for developing clinical protocols and practice management guidelines, ensuring compliance with care standards. Your day-to-day involves coaching staff, providing feedback on nursing care, and supervising the delegation of patient care while retaining accountability for quality outcomes. You will also contribute to professional development initiatives and assist in compiling optimal care standards through patient case reviews for internal and regional committees.
We expect every team member to commit to the daily application of Avera's mission, vision, core values, and social principles. This includes promoting our values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship, and upholding our CARE standards (Communication, Attitude, Responsiveness, and Engagement) with enthusiasm and sincerity. Success in this role requires working effectively in a team environment, maintaining strict confidentiality, and complying with all safety principles and regulations, including those from CMS, The Joint Commission, and OSHA.
