The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient and family education, and transitions of care. This role supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and the continuum of care to meet the unique needs of patients and families. The RN functions within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
Beyond clinical duties, the RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptorship, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The role requires delegating patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and resource availability. Excellent communication skills, mentoring abilities, and critical thinking are essential. This position may involve driving a personal vehicle as part of the role's responsibilities.
