Corrections professionals foster a humane and secure environment while ensuring public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities.
As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care services within the institution's hospital or clinic, adhering to all legal, ethical, and institutional standards. Your work involves delivering general nursing care to inmates, with opportunities to specialize in areas such as psychiatric care, operating rooms, orthopedics, and geriatrics.
You will be responsible for developing comprehensive nursing assessments for each patient, encompassing planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. A critical aspect of this role involves identifying high-risk symptoms and behaviors, including suicidal or homicidal ideation, and risks for verbal or physical abuse. Additionally, you will conduct nutritional screenings and refer patients to dietitians when necessary.
While you will monitor, evaluate, and revise care plans as needed, and document discharge planning requirements, it is important to note that staff correctional responsibilities precede all clinical duties. You will share the responsibility with all other employees to maintain the security of the institution on a regular and recurring basis.
