Correctional professionals in this role foster a humane and secure environment while ensuring public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care services within the institution's hospital or clinic, adhering to all legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
Your work will involve delivering general nursing care to inmates, with opportunities to specialize in specific areas such as psychiatric care, operating rooms, orthopedics, or geriatrics. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive nursing assessments for each patient, encompassing planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. This includes identifying high-risk symptoms and behaviors, such as suicidal or homicidal tendencies, and risks for verbal or physical abuse.
Beyond clinical duties, you will conduct nutritional screenings and refer patients to dietitians when necessary. You will continuously monitor, evaluate, and revise care plans, while also assessing and documenting discharge planning needs. Collaboration is key, as you will delegate and coordinate care based on your assessments.
