Correctional professionals in this role foster a humane and secure environment while ensuring public safety by preparing individuals for successful reentry into our communities. As a Registered Nurse, you will provide direct patient care services within the institution's hospital or clinic, adhering to all legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
Your day-to-day responsibilities involve delivering general nursing care to inmates, with potential specialization in areas such as psychiatric, operating room, orthopedic, or geriatric units. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive nursing assessments for each patient, encompassing planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. This includes identifying high-risk symptoms and behaviors, such as suicidal or homicidal ideation, and risks for verbal or physical abuse. Additionally, you will conduct nutritional screenings and refer patients to dietitians when necessary, while continuously monitoring and revising care plans. You will also assess discharge planning needs and coordinate care delegation based on your clinical assessments.
Along with all other correctional institution employees, you are charged with the responsibility of maintaining the security of the institution.
