Methodist Hospitals operates as an independent healthcare system headquartered in Gary, Indiana, serving the Northwest Indiana region with a legacy spanning more than a century. The organization focuses on delivering comprehensive medical care through a dedicated team of physicians, nurses, and support staff. Its mission centers on maintaining the health of local residents while simultaneously addressing broader community needs beyond traditional clinical services.
Recent strategic investments totaling over $14 million in the last decade highlight a commitment to modernizing diagnostic and treatment capabilities. Current infrastructure upgrades include an interventional radiology suite, new cardiac catheter labs at Northlake and Southlake campuses, and advanced PET-CT technology. These enhancements support specialized care lines such as neonatal intensive care through partnerships with UChicago Medicine and a family practice residency program established with IU Northwest.
Beyond medical procedures, the hospital addresses social determinants of health through initiatives like the Nutrition Station for food insecurity and the STAR Center for sexual violence support. The system continues to expand its footprint by adding outpatient pharmacy services and attracting high-quality providers to strengthen key service lines. Methodist Hospitals aims to sustain its status as a successful, independent entity while embarking on its second century of service to the community.
