This position serves as the foundational level for Registered Nurses at BWMC with greater than 12 months of experience. As a Clinical Nurse I, you will independently provide and coordinate care within the MedSurg Unit on the 5th Floor, functioning as a fully effective member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.
The role is designed to transition nurses from task-based care to holistic practice. You will serve as a Clinical Resource for your colleagues, assisting in the development of unit-specific clinical guidelines and standards. Your work will focus on collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to address patient and family needs, utilizing evidence-based practice, and integrating patient education using the Teach Back methodology.
You will be accountable for advancing group practice on the unit, modeling professional behavior, and upholding the Nursing Mission, Vision, and Values. This includes participating in unit governance, contributing to process improvement initiatives, and supporting a culture of excellence aligned with the UM BWMC model of care.
You will work within a clean, well-lit environment that requires high adaptability. The role involves frequent interruptions and the potential for multiple crisis situations. You may be exposed to patients with infectious diseases, requiring strict adherence to universal precautions, including the use of protective clothing, gloves, and masks. The position may also involve potential exposure to verbal or physical abuse from patients.
As a team member, you will support the AACN guidelines for a Healthy Work Environment, focusing on communication, collaboration, and effective decision-making. You may be floated to similar units based on acuity and census, and you are expected to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and on-call duties as necessary.
