National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is a certified DBE/WBE firm and the most trusted name in the railroad industry for providing qualified field safety staff and safety training. We serve major railroads, smaller rail lines, transit systems, and contractors across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico. Our mission is to protect workers, customers, and communities by maintaining leadership in railroad safety.
As a Railroad Flagger, you will be the critical link ensuring safety on active train tracks. This role exists to control train movements and enforce federal safety rules, keeping workers safe while they perform maintenance and construction tasks. You will support a diverse range of clients, from Class 1 railroads to state transportation projects.
In this field-based position, you will coordinate daily activities at job sites, lead safety briefings, and communicate clearly with dispatchers, train crews, and contractors. Your day involves enforcing railroad, state, and federal regulations, spotting rule violations, and completing detailed daily reports. You will work in a dynamic environment that requires standing for long periods, walking on uneven ground, and adapting to extreme weather, dust, and noise. Success in this role demands high organization, strong attention to detail, and the ability to build lasting relationships with clients while traveling 50% to 85% of the time, often for extended periods.
Safety is our core value. At NRSS, we operate under the principle that no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. Every employee is expected to prioritize the protection of workers and communities above all else.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, as well as drug and alcohol testing. All new hires must also complete required classroom training.
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
