National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is a certified DBE/WBE firm and the most trusted name in the railroad industry for providing qualified field safety staff and safety training. We serve major railroads, smaller rail lines, transit systems, state transportation projects, and contractors across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico. Our proven safety record allows us to handle any project with confidence.
Safety is our core value. At NRSS, we prioritize the protection of workers, customers, and communities above all else. We operate under the principle that no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. All employees are expected to uphold this standard daily.
As a Railroad Flagger, you will be the critical link ensuring worker safety on active train tracks. Your primary mission is to control train movements and enforce federal safety rules while supporting a diverse range of clients, from Class 1 railroads to state DOT rail divisions. This is a field-based role that requires you to coordinate activities, lead safety briefings, and maintain strict adherence to railroad, state, and federal regulations.
You will serve as the point of contact for dispatchers, train crews, and contractors, ensuring that all personnel meet training requirements and that any rule violations are immediately addressed. This position is designed for those who thrive in a dynamic environment where attention to detail and clear communication directly impact the safety of the workforce.
This role operates entirely in a field environment. You will be expected to work in extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold, as well as in dusty and noisy settings. The job requires the ability to stand for long periods, walk on uneven ground, and lift up to 50 pounds. Strong vision (near, far, color, and peripheral) is essential for spotting hazards and ensuring on-track safety.
Travel is a significant component of this position, expected to average between 50% and 85%. You must be willing to travel for long periods, potentially spanning months at a time, to support projects across the region.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, as well as drug and alcohol testing. All new hires are required to complete mandatory classroom training before beginning field duties.
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
