National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. (NRSS) is a certified DBE/WBE firm and the most trusted name in the railroad industry for providing qualified field safety staff and safety training. NRSS serves major railroads, smaller rail lines, transit systems, state transportation projects, and contractors across the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.
As a Railroad Flagger, you will be the critical link ensuring worker safety on active train tracks. Your primary mission is to control train movements and enforce federal safety rules to protect crews, customers, and communities. This role is essential for supporting Maintenance Of Way (MOW) operations, bridge projects, and track maintenance initiatives.
You will coordinate activities at job sites, lead safety briefings, and communicate clearly with dispatchers, train crews, and contractors. The position requires a high level of organization and attention to detail to spot rule violations and ensure all personnel meet training requirements. You will be responsible for completing daily reports and maintaining on-track safety in compliance with federal, state, and client regulations.
This is a field-based role that demands physical resilience and adaptability. You will work in dusty, noisy environments and must be prepared to handle extreme weather conditions, from intense heat to freezing cold. The job requires the ability to stand for long periods, walk on uneven ground, and lift up to 50 pounds. Strong vision (near, far, color, and peripheral) and the ability to communicate clearly in English are mandatory.
Travel is a significant component of this position, with an average of 50% to 85% travel expected. You may be required to travel or drive long distances for extended periods, sometimes lasting months at a time.
Candidates selected for this position must successfully pass pre-employment and recurrent background checks, as well as drug and alcohol testing. All new hires must also complete required classroom training before beginning field duties.
Safety is our core value. At NRSS, no job is so urgent that it cannot be done safely. We are committed to maintaining leadership in railroad safety by ensuring the protection of everyone involved in our projects.
National Railroad Safety Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. We consider qualified applicants regardless of background.
