This role serves as the critical first line of defense for public safety in the City of Tyler. As a Telecommunicator, you will be the voice and eyes of the Police and Fire departments, receiving incoming emergency and non-emergency calls to dispatch necessary units using advanced Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) software. Beyond call handling, you will perform essential support duties that keep the communications center operating smoothly, ensuring that every unit on assignment is accounted for and that the community receives timely assistance.
In this high-stakes environment, you will be the calm center of the storm. The role requires more than just technical proficiency; it demands the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with upset or irate citizens while listening intently to gather vital information. You will learn the intricate geography of Tyler, Smith County, and surrounding areas to ensure units are dispatched to the right location quickly. Whether responding to unit requests for driver's license checks, clearing stolen items from the system, or assisting with Emergency Operations Center (EOC) callouts, your judgment and accuracy are vital to public safety.
