About the Role

This position serves as the critical communication hub for emergency response operations. The primary mission is to operate specialized communication equipment to receive incoming calls for assistance and immediately dispatch personnel and equipment to emergency scenes via radio or electronic means. Beyond emergency response, the role involves scheduling numerous non-emergency transports for ambulance and wheelchair divisions, ensuring efficient resource allocation across the fleet.

The role requires a fast-paced environment where the incumbent must manage high volumes of emergency calls simultaneously. Success in this position demands the ability to multi-task effectively while maintaining constant verbal communication and active listening. The work involves frequent exposure to electronic dispatch equipment and requires precise keyboarding skills to operate computer-aided dispatch systems, perform street searches on digital maps, and manage filing processes.

Team and Collaboration

This role functions as a central node within the emergency services network. The incumbent maintains frequent contact with a diverse group of stakeholders, including physicians, EMS and Fire personnel (both paid and volunteer), police agencies, aeromedical staff, internal division staff, patients, and their families. Effective coordination with these groups is essential for facilitating insurance and payment processes and ensuring seamless operational flow.

Hiring Process

Candidates selected for this role are expected to attend communications staff meetings as requested. The position requires the maintenance of specific certifications, including CPR for the Professional Rescuer (AHA or equivalent). A background in EMT, medical terminology, or similar medical fields is preferred to support the technical demands of the role.
